Since early 2022, TikTok has been spotted recruiting brands/merchants, creators, and agency partners to prepare for its launch of TikTop Shop in Malaysia.

Before we start, it is good to know that e-commerce is still growing at 15% annually in Malaysia, capturing RM33 billion in online sales in 2021 according to this report.
TIKTOK MARKETING
Another market force not to be overlooked by businesses is that TikTok is growing very fast here, with close to 17 million TikTok users in Malaysia by early 2022.
With most of the social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube) and online shopping sites (Shopee, Lazada) at the point of saturation, TikTok Shop offers a fresh option in the market.

1. Checkout within the TikTok app
In case you are wondering, TikTok Shop facilitates a one-stop user shopping experience – without the frictions of leaving the app to third-party online shopping sites.
A shopping bag icon will be made available for those eCommerce-enabled content, tap on it and the product info will be prompted for you to add to cart or buy now.
Upon checkout, users need to fill up their address and then make payment, all within the app. At the time of writing, there are 4 payment methods available in Malaysia:

2. There are 3 TikTok Shop formats
With the shop icon embedded in the content, TikTok is facilitating immersive and native ways to encourage users to browse and buy on its platform.
Besides content discovery, TikTok users can also check out the product catalog offered by the creators or merchants by browsing their TikTok Shops.

- Live Shopping
- Product Showcase
- Video Shopping

3. How to join as a TikTok Shop seller?
If you are representing a brand or merchant (currently only open for Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, UK markets), here’s how to join as a TikTok Shop seller:
- Apply online here.
- Upload company / personal materials.
- Wait for the approval notification.
For TikTok creators, you can register your account to TikTok Creator Marketplace for E-Commerce. Once it’s approved, you can then set up your profile and manage your affiliate and brand partnership.
TikTok Shop Partners (TSPs) program is also available for agencies that are able to provide services on content creation, shoppable live streaming production, and store operation.
