If you go through the checklist of 10 things how content creators and influencers are different, you might argue that TikTokers are a combination of both. However, Douyin creators in China aside, TikTokers in this part of the world is arguably more similar to Instagram influencers.

In terms of the highest average views, DJ @itsjovynn ranks first in Malaysia with 2.7M average views, followed closely by @steven_ang (2.6M) and @ahbren88 (2.5M).

Interestingly, food publishers @foodiemy with 1.5M TikTok followers, and F&B @chicken_royale (952K) are two of the most popular brands (not individuals) on TikTok in Malaysia.

Do take note that some of the top local TikTok personalities are more popular overseas. For example, if we look at the chart-topper Ruthbell, close to 30% of her followers are from the United States, while only 9% are from Malaysia.

Besides the United States, it is interesting to note that many local TikTok influencers are also popular in Indonesia, the Philippines, and Cambodia.
